Acambaro
Acámbaro · Mexico
Acámbaro, on the banks of the Lerma River in the southeastern corner of Guanajuato, is the oldest municipality in the state and the origin of a nationally famous bread that bears its name. Originally a Purépecha settlement before Spanish forces arrived in 1526, it later became a major railway junction and regional transport hub. The mountains of the surrounding area are close at hand, and the riverside setting gives the town a distinct character among Guanajuato's municipalities.
