Aglona

Latvia

Aglona Basilica, an important centre of Catholic religious life in Latvia, draws visitors to this modest Latgale village set between two lakes in eastern Latvia. The basilica traces its origins to a Dominican monastery built here at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. The surrounding area also holds sites including Sacrifice Island, Devil's Lake, and the Madelanu Castle Mound, with pine forests and lakeside scenery adding to the summer appeal.
