Sadiq Garh Palace, a century-old residence of the Nawabs of Bahawalpur, stands in this Punjab city near the Cholistan Desert and once hosted guests ranging from the Viceroy of India to the Shah of Iran. The city's railway station, known as Dera Nawab Sahib, was the birthplace of the former Bahawalpur state's ruling Nawabs and retains a royal waiting room, now in ruins. Founded in 1748, the city was relocated after severe flooding from the Ghara River in 1758.
