Ainsworth Hot Springs
Canada
Founded in 1883 by steamboat operator George Ainsworth, this little historic village on the shore of Kootenay Lake in British Columbia draws visitors to its hot springs and the nearby Cody Caves — a network of tunnels originally cut by miners to increase thermal water flow. The oldest surviving community on Kootenay Lake, it once thrived on silver-lead mining before declining in the 1890s. Today the hot springs and cave spelunking are the main draws.
