Al-Hasakah
Syria
A city in northeastern Syria where the Khabur and Jaghjagh rivers meet, Al-Hasakah is home to a concentration of historic churches in its centre, reflecting its ethnically diverse population of Arabs, Kurds, Assyrians, and smaller numbers of Armenians. The surrounding region holds numerous archaeological sites and fertile agricultural land. Al-Hasakah serves as the capital of both the Hasakah Governorate and the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES).
