This small town in Spain's Badajoz province, close to the Portuguese border, with vineyards in the surrounding countryside and cafés and restaurants in its compact centre. Alburquerque carries a notable medieval history — it was once a dominion of the kings of Portugal, and the titles of Lord, Count, and Duke of Alburquerque were significant in Castilian affairs.
