Small wine-country town in Portugal's Oeste region, Alenquer sits along the river that shares its name and has a central core with cafés and restaurants. Its history runs deep: Queen Sancha granted the town a charter in 1212, and King Dinis issued a revised one in 1302, later reformed in 1510 under Manuel I.
