Alupka
Ukraine
Vorontsov Palace — designed by English architect Edward Blore in a striking blend of Scottish baronial and Neo-Moorish styles and built between 1828 and 1846 for Prince Mikhail Vorontsov — is the centrepiece of this compact Black Sea resort town on Crimea's southern coast, set against the slopes of the Crimean Mountains near the foot of Ai-Petri. A de jure Ukrainian territory under Russian occupation since 2014, Alupka sits a short distance west of Yalta and draws visitors as a beach resort and holiday destination.
