Amyntaio

A little town in western Macedonia named after Amyntas III — father of Philip II and grandfather of Alexander the Great — Amyntaio sits near two lakes, Vegoritida and Petron, both significant wetland habitats. The surrounding area holds prehistoric, Hellenistic, and Byzantine monuments, and the region has developed a wine tourism circuit around its local wineries. The town is reachable from Athens and Thessaloniki by bus and train.
