Anija

Estonia

This little Estonian village in Harju County, first recorded in 1241, is known for a protected manor park expanded in the early 20th century with many exotic tree species, a nature reserve with a marshy lake, and several culturally listed ritual stones. The 1858 uprising of local serfs, who marched to Tallinn to demand relief from feudal obligations, inspired Eduard Vilde's novel "When the Men of Anija Went to Tallinn."
