This city in northwest São Paulo state known historically as the Capital of Fat Cattle, a title earned through the livestock trade that once defined its economy. Founded around a railway camp established in 1908 during construction of the Noroeste do Brasil line, Araçatuba grew through successive cycles of coffee, cotton, and sugarcane before diversifying into services and education. The Parque Náutico Dr. Milton Camargo sits on the water, and the city also holds a railway museum and an ecological park.
