Araruama

A coastal city in Rio de Janeiro state with both ocean beaches and lagoon beaches, Araruama sits alongside the large Araruama Lagoon and holds Atlantic Forest within the Costa do Sol State Park between the shoreline and the lagoon. Its Tupi name translates roughly as "the place where macaws drink water." The largest municipality in the Região dos Lagos by area, it draws visitors from across the region.
