This pocket-sized waterfront town on a bay along the eastern shore of the Ionian Sea, Astakos sits at the foot of the Acarnanian Mountains in western Greece. Its name — the Greek word for "lobster" — traces back to the ancient Acarnanian settlement of Astacus, and the site is speculatively linked to the Homeric island of Dulichium.
