Once the capital of the Kushan Empire in the first century AD, Bagram is an ancient Afghan town in Parwan Province whose position at the junction of the Ghorband and Panjshir valleys made it a key Silk Road passage between ancient India and the west. Known in antiquity as Alexandria of the Caucasus and later as Kapisa, the area has fertile land, vineyards, and riverside villages that draw day-trippers from Kabul, with mountain terrain and the Kushan Pass close by.
