A pocket-sized fjordside village on the northern shore of the Sognefjorden in western Norway, Balestrand has drawn tourists since the 1800s and still offers a genuine café and restaurant scene for its size. The Kviknes Hotel, the Sognefjord Aquarium, and the Norwegian Museum of Travel and Tourism are all here, with ferry connections in summer to Flærlandsfjorden and Flåm, and fast boat service to Bergen. UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region.
