Ballymote

This little market town in southern County Sligo whose notable sons include Brother Walfrid, the Marist Brother who founded Glasgow Celtic Football Club, and two Field Marshals of the Holy Roman Empire. Ballymote Castle dates from 1300, and the medieval Book of Ballymote was written in or near the town in the 1390s. The surrounding countryside holds prehistoric sites, with Carrowkeel among the best known, and the town sits on the Dublin–Sligo rail line.
