A high mountain in Mae Fa Luang District, Chiang Rai Province, at Thailand's northernmost tip, Doi Tung is home to Wat Phra That Doi Tung, a stupa said to enshrine a collarbone relic of the Buddha and founded in 909 CE. The mountain also holds a royal villa combining Lanna and Swiss vernacular architecture, and a non-profit royal development project. Scenic viewpoints extend across the surrounding highlands.
