Small town on the Doubs river in eastern France's Franche-Comté, with vineyards in the surrounding countryside, scenic viewpoints nearby, and a central core of cafés and restaurants. The wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites. Baume-les-Dames was the birthplace of the mineralogist Jacques-Joseph Ébelmen, the poet Charles-Émilien Thuriet, and the archaeologist Gustave Fougères.
