A city at the foot of the western Middle Atlas mountains in north-central Morocco, Beni Mellal has a walkable centre with a dense café and restaurant scene. Founded around a kasbah built by Moulay Isma'il in 1688, it opens onto the Tadla plain and is known for the Ain Asserdoun spring park. The mountains rise close enough to reach easily from the city.
