Blitar
Indonesia
Blitar, a city in East Java, is known across Indonesia as the burial place of Sukarno, the country's first president, whose grave sits a short distance from the city centre. The Istana Gebang, the childhood home of Sukarno, has been converted into a museum nearby. The city also carries the nickname Kota Peta, marking the February 1945 armed resistance against Japanese rule that helped inspire the broader independence movement. Mount Kelud, an active volcano, rises just north of the city.
