Borgo San Dalmazzo
Cuneo · Italy
A tiny Piedmontese town near Cuneo with a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size, Borgo San Dalmazzo also holds an 11th-century parish church dedicated to Saint Dalmatius, from whom the town takes its name. It sits close to the mountains and carries a darker layer of history: during the Second World War, the Nazi and Italian Social Republic regimes operated a concentration camp here, from which hundreds of Jewish prisoners were deported to Auschwitz and other extermination camps.
