Buivydžiai

Lithuania

This pocket-sized Lithuanian village on the left bank of the Neris River, near its confluence with the Buivydė tributary, Buivydžiai sits close to the Belarusian border east of Vilnius. Documented since 1537, it grew around a manor later redesigned by architect Laurynas Gucevičius. A wooden octagonal church dedicated to Saint George, built in 1785, burned down in 1982 and was replaced in brick. The Radziševski family mausoleum chapel survives in the village.
