Calabar
Nigeria
Calabar, capital of Nigeria's Cross River State, sits alongside the Calabar and Great Kwa rivers and has carried a reputation as the country's tourism capital, a status built partly through environmental initiatives that made it one of Nigeria's cleaner cities. Originally known as Akwa Akpa in the Efik language, the city's visitor draws include a Slave Museum, the Tinapa Business and Tourist Resort, a Cultural and Civic Centre, and the Calabar Free Trade Zone.
