Caruaru
Caruaru · Brazil
Caruaru, a city in the interior of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil, hosts the Feira de Caruaru — recognized as the world's largest open-air market and designated an intangible cultural heritage of Brazil by IPHAN. The city is also the largest center of figurative clay art in the Americas according to UNESCO, a tradition shaped by Mestre Vitalino, whose works reached the Louvre. Every June, large São João festivals draw crowds to the city, which serves as the main cultural and medical hub of the Agreste region.
