Castanheira do Ribatejo

A little town on the Tagus in Portugal's wine-growing Ribatejo region, Castanheira do Ribatejo sits within the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira and has a compact centre with cafés and restaurants. Once the seat of an abolished municipality, it was re-elevated to town status in 1985. A river terminal currently under construction will significantly expand its freight capacity, giving the waterfront an industrial character alongside its agricultural surroundings.
