Chamrousse
France
Chamrousse, a ski resort village in the Belledonne range above Grenoble, holds a particular place in French skiing history: the sport was first practised here in 1878, and the resort hosted the alpine skiing events at the 1968 Winter Olympics. Ski lifts reach the Croix de Chamrousse high above the valley, and the resort has also twice served as a Tour de France stage finish, in 2001 and 2014.
