A highland Bolivian town in the Andes, Charazani is known for its thermal springs a short distance from the centre, a patronal festival on 16 July honouring the Virgen del Carmen, and traditional musical forms including kantus and chatrepulis. Founded by decree of Marshal Antonio José de Sucre in 1826, it serves as the capital of the Bautista Saavedra province in the La Paz department, sitting high in the mountains.
