Ciudad Bolívar
Venezuela
Ciudad Bolívar, on the southern bank of the Orinoco where the river narrows sharply, is a photogenic Venezuelan city whose colonial historic centre — cathedral, Plaza Bolívar, and surrounding original buildings — entered UNESCO's indicative heritage list in 2003. The city was formerly called Angostura, a name it lent to the Congress of Angostura, the Angostura tree, and Angostura bitters. It is also the birthplace of kinetic artist Jesús Rafael Soto, honoured by the Museo de Arte Moderno Jesús Soto, opened in 1973 as the world's first museum dedicated to kinetic art.
