Cochrane
Chile
A compact Patagonian town on Chile's Carretera Austral with a surprisingly active centre for its size — cafés, restaurants, and a bakery cluster around a pine-lined square. Founded in 1954 and named for Thomas Cochrane, the British naval officer appointed Chile's first Admiral in 1818, it sits just south of Patagonia National Park and near the peak of Monte San Lorenzo. It remains the southernmost town on the highway, with only a handful of villages beyond it.
