Combarbalá, a small town in Chile's Coquimbo region, is known for its craft tradition in combarbalita, a stone found only in this area, and for the Cruz del Sur astronomical observatory that draws visitors to its high-elevation, mountain-ringed setting. The town also holds petroglyphs at Rincón las Chilcas and hosts the Virgen de la Piedra festival, a Catholic-pagan celebration, alongside an annual basketball match held each February.
