A compact village on the Amalfi Coast between Amalfi and Furore, sitting directly on the water with scenic viewpoints nearby and an unusually dense cluster of cafés, restaurants, and churches for its size. The wider coastline has held UNESCO World Heritage status since 1997. Its history runs from a possible Etruscan founding through Roman conquest in 272 BC, a medieval role as a trading base of the Republic of Amalfi, a Turkish raid in 1543, and an active tonnara that operated until 1956.
