Cuetzalan
Cuetzalan del Progreso · Mexico
Founded by Franciscan friars in 1547, Cuetzalan is a colonial highland town in the hills of northern Puebla state, with steep cobblestone streets lined by white buildings and a Sunday market that preserves indigenous Nahua and Totonac life. The surrounding area offers waterfalls, caves, jungle hiking trails, and coffee plantations, along with a pre-Columbian archaeological site dating back some 1,500 years. The town joined Mexico's Pueblos Mágicos programme in 2002.
