Cumberland
Allegany County · United States
A photogenic city on the Potomac River in Western Maryland, Cumberland has a compact centre with a concentration of cafés, restaurants, and historic churches. Once the state's second-largest city and known as the "Queen City," it served as a major staging point for westward emigration in the early 1800s and was connected to Washington, D.C. by the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, now a national historical park running along the riverbank.
