A city in Egypt's western Nile Delta whose name derives from the ancient Egyptian "Dmi n Hor," meaning "city of Horus," Damanhur has held administrative importance through Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, and Islamic periods. The capital of Beheira Governorate, it sits at the junction of several regional routes and is home to notable sites including the Tawba Mosque, the Habashi Mosque, and the Damanhur Opera House. The city also serves as a trading centre for the surrounding agricultural region.
