Dargo
Wellington · Australia
Tiny hamlet in Victoria's high country, east of Melbourne, Dargo sits on a river and draws four-wheel drive enthusiasts, bushwalkers, trout fishermen, and sambar deer hunters into the surrounding ranges. The town served as a stopover for gold rush miners heading to the Crooked River and Grant goldfields in the 19th century, and today timber and beef cattle remain its economic base alongside tourism. An annual Walnut Festival formerly ran over the Easter period.
