Founded in 1844 by settlers whose distant roots trace to Moscopole in northern Epirus, Drosopigi is a compact highland village in the Florina regional unit of Greek Macedonia, sitting on the eastern slope of Mount Bitsi along the road connecting Florina to Kastoria. The Drosopigiotikos river, fed by mountain springs and home to trout, runs through the area. The village holds several historic churches for its size, and its wartime history includes a March 1944 regional EAM conference followed by a German reprisal burning that April.
