Edfu's main draw is the Temple of Horus, a large and well-preserved Ptolemaic temple begun in 237 BC, sitting on the west bank of the Nile in Upper Egypt between Esna and Aswan. The city also contains Tell Edfu, an ancient settlement, and the remains of Old Kingdom cemeteries, with pyramid ruins a short distance to the south. Cruise passengers stopping here from Luxor will find a walkable centre with cafés and restaurants close to the river.
