The most remote permanent settlement in the world, Edinburgh of the Seven Seas sits on the volcanic island of Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic, more than 2,000 kilometres from the nearest other inhabited place. Known locally as The Village, it is the sole settlement on the island, which forms part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.
