Billed as the Ordovician Fossil Capital of Canada, this small Ontario village sits in a deep limestone valley carved by the Bonnechere River, where fossils some 500 million years old — coral, trilobites, cephalopods, and more — can be found in the riverbed and surrounding rock. The nearby Bonnechere Caves, formed beneath a hill of ancient limestone, are a draw in their own right, and a Geo-Heritage Walking Trail along the river includes a fossil pit, an old quarry, and scenic lookouts.
