Feira de Santana
Feira de Santana · Brazil
Feira de Santana is best known internationally for hosting the Micareta, Brazil's largest out-of-season carnival, and sits at the commercial heart of Bahia's interior, a large city a short drive northwest of Salvador. Its name — Portuguese for "Saint Anne's Fair" — reflects its origins as a trading settlement founded by merchants in the 19th century, a history still visible in landmarks like the tropeiro statue and the neogothic Igreja Senhor dos Passos. The city also hosts one of only two state-of-the-art planetariums in Latin America.
