Fermoselle

Fermoselle, a tiny village in Zamora's far southwest, sits above the dramatic gorge of the Arribes del Duero where the Duero and Tormes rivers meet at the Portuguese border — a landscape of steep cliffs, green rock formations, and terraced vineyards that makes it one of the province's most photographed spots. The village dates to pre-Roman times, was declared a historic-artistic ensemble in 1974, and is the birthplace of Juan de la Encina, considered the father of Spanish theatre. Its terraced gorge vineyards grow Juan García, an indigenous grape variety that survived the phylloxera blight.
