Small hamlet in Yoho National Park in southeastern British Columbia, Field sits in the Kicking Horse River valley along the Trans-Canada Highway and serves as the base for visiting the Burgess Shale fossil site, a UNESCO World Heritage area central to understanding the Cambrian explosion. The community takes its name from Cyrus West Field, the Transatlantic telegraph cable pioneer who visited the area in 1884.
