Gibara

Founded in 1817 and known as La Villa Blanca, Gibara is a historic port town on Cuba's northeastern coast whose walkable centre — declared a National Monument in 2004 — holds a well-preserved grid of colonial architecture and a real café and restaurant scene. The town hosts the Festival Internacional de Cine Pobre, an alternative film festival established in 2003 by filmmaker Humberto Solás, and sits near coastal viewpoints and mountain terrain in Holguín Province.
