Gongguan

Taiwan

Rural township in central Miaoli County, Taiwan, Gongguan has a long history in oil and gas extraction — the site of what was claimed to be Asia's first oil well during the Qing dynasty era — and is also known for ceramics production. Strawberries and red jujubes are local agricultural specialties, with seasonal festivals built around each. The population is predominantly Hakka, and the surrounding area includes mountain terrain and nearby water.
