Gorodets
Russia
One of the oldest towns in the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gorodets sits on the left bank of the Volga River with views across the water to the town of Zavolzhye. Traditionally dated to 1152 and attributed to Prince Yuri Dolgoruky, it was among the first Russian settlements in the Volga region, serving as a frontier fortress against Bulgar raids and known historically as Gorodets-Radilov and Maly Kitezh. The Volga setting gives the town its main scenic draw.
