Pocket-sized town on the southern tip of Newfoundland's Burin Peninsula, Grand Bank built its identity around the sea — first as a French fishing settlement from around 1640, then as the nucleus of Newfoundland's bank fishing industry. Its ice-free harbour kept trade and fishing viable year-round, and today the town still centres on fish production through Grand Bank Seafoods Inc. It sits on Fortune Bay, a short drive from the peninsula's rugged interior terrain.
