Guarapuava

Guarapuava, a highland city in the centre of Paraná state, produces around a fifth of Brazil's barley and hosts one of the world's largest malt factories — a scale of agribusiness that defines the region. Founded in 1810 on the Guarapuava Plateau, the city sits high enough to see occasional snowfall and is surrounded by subtropical araucaria forest. Its name derives from Tupi-Guarani words meaning the place of the maned wolf's sound.
