This little Caribbean capital on the island of Saint Barthélemy sits directly on the water, with a compact centre of cafés and restaurants and a strong visual appeal for photographers. Originally called Le Carénage, it was renamed Gustavia in honour of King Gustav III of Sweden, a legacy that gives the town an unusual Franco-Swedish character rare in the Caribbean.
