A university city on the western edge of North Gyeongsang Province, Gyeongsan sits directly against Daegu and is served by its metro network, making it a practical base for exploring the wider region. Home to several universities, it has a young, active atmosphere alongside access to mountain terrain, including the rock-carved seated Buddha known as Gatbawi on Palgongsan. The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation, which produces South Korean banknotes and coins, is also based here.
