Sitting on the river Main in Bavaria, Haßfurt is a little town with a café and restaurant scene that is well stocked for its size, and a notable piece of engineering history: the 1867 Hassfurt Bridge, thought to be the first cantilever bridge ever built. The town itself dates to around 1230, founded as a border fortification between the bishoprics of Würzburg and Bamberg, and sits within reach of several UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region.
